Meet the Children of Western Kenya

Since its founding, the Nambale Magnet School has been providing a home and education to the poorest of the poor in an area of Kenya where poverty is measured in caloric intake, not dollar income.

How Supported Students are Selected

Much attention is focused on the support of the "sponsored learners," the children who are so needy that when they arrive at the School, they usually have only one piece of clothing and no shoes. 

Among the very first children who enrolled at Nambale Magnet School were those whose families had been devastated by the HIV/AIDS crisis and currently, the COVID-19 pandemic has left children orphaned or with few families members to adequately care for them. [ more ]


Integrating Fee Paying Students

Initially, almost no parents of fee-paying students were willing to enroll their children at NMS because the School was unproven. There was no reason to believe that an educational model mixing destitute and fee-paying students as equals would succeed.

However, word of early success among the NMS students spread encouraging more fee-paying families to consider enrolling their children. [ more ]


Student Stories

In 2021 the Nambale Magnet School celebrated twelve years of educating and nurturing the most vulnerable children of Western Kenya. In 2016, the first NMS graduating class transitioned to high school and 100% of these students, and of all the graduating classes since then, have gone on to high school!
