WIKS-USA Leadership Team


John Gill - President
John is a retired international banker following a career focused on Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

His transformative introduction to Nambale Magnet School (NMS) came during a 2017 visit to NMS along with participation on the Mission Team at Noroton Presbyterian Church, a long-time supporter of Evalyn Wakhusama and NMS.

John joined the WIKS-USA Board in 2019.


Rev. Peter Stebinger - VP Communications
Peter has been involved with the Nambale Magnet School since its inception in 2004 during a trip to Kenya to visit the Rev. Evalyn Wakhusama, who he had worked with during Evalyn's time as a student at Yale Divinity School.

Since that time he has visited the school many times. He is a passionate advocate for the School's fully sponsored OVCs and for the magnet school concept of mixing fee-paying and fully sponsored students.


Stephen Burt - Corporate Treasurer
Stephen is president of Burt Process Equipment, a manufacturer of water treatment systems that has a focus on global water quality and works with non-profit and non-government organizations in a fundraising and engineering capacity to improve the quality of water to those in need as well as in disaster relief areas.

Through his friendship with Evalyn Wakhusama and board members of WIKS-USA, Steve joined the WIKS-USA team in 2017 in a financial management capacity as Corporate Treasurer.


James Hutter – Secretary
Jim is a financial and business leader active in the nonprofit world, most notably serving as Chief Financial Officer for Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) until 2021. Mr. Hutter continues to work with HCZ in an Executive Advisor capacity. Previously he served as Managing Director for J.P. Morgan Chase in a variety of senior Finance and Business roles.

Jim has been involved with nonprofit organizations throughout his career. His support of WIKS-USA began through his wife's friendship with Rev. Evalyn Wakhusama while she was a student at Yale Divinity School ... [ more ]


Harvey Feinberg, Ph.D. – Director
Harvey, Professor Emeritus of African History, has been involved in Africa-related activities since his graduate school days. He lived in Ghana pursuing his dissertation research and has conducted research in South Africa on numerous occasions since 1985.

In 1994, he was an official observer during the first democratic election in South Africa. He published numerous articles and two books about his Africa research. Harvey joined the WIKS Board in 2014.


Betsy Mettler – Director
Betsy is a financial services executive and entrepreneur leading a global financial training and consulting business.

As a member of Noroton Presbyterian Church, Betsy met Evalyn Wakhusama at the 2010 Women's Retreat. The vision and dedication Evalyn shared about Nambale Magnet School (NMS) moved Betsy to be a supporter and friend to the students. Halim Omar – Director
Halim's introduction to Nambale Magnet School was through Tom Sansone, who formerly served on the board of WIKS-USA. As a native of Kenya, Halim was very interested in the WIKS-USA's mission and has served on the board since 2018.

He also serves on the Whalley Avenue Special Service District and was newly appointed to the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Halim has been with New Haven Bank as the AVP Branch Manager of their main office for the past 14 years.


Michael Stafford – Director
Mike is a former high school history teacher, and currently the youth minister at the Episcopal Church of St Mary the Virgin in San Francisco.

He was first introduced to NMS in 2016 when he took a team of youth to do service there and has been an ardent supporter of the school and its mission ever since.

Mike joined the WIKS-USA Board in 2023.


Mary Wise – Director
Mary is a management consultant at Kearney where she focuses on Strategic Operations and Food and Agriculture. She graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Agricultural Economics.

Mary was introduced to Nambale Magnet School through her upbringing in New Canaan, Connecticut and Norton Presbyterian Church. She visited Nambale Magnet School for the first time in March and fell in love with the school and the people. She joined the WIKS board in May 2024.
