Nambale Magnet School 2025 Impact Report
May 2025 - Dear Friends, As we end Term One of 2025 I wish to express my sincere deep gratitude to every partner, friend, and supporter who has stood with us on this remarkable journey that started 16 years ago. What started as a seed of hope to uplift vulnerable children in Western Kenya has grown into a vibrant, values driven school community educating, nurturing, and shaping future leaders. This would not have been possible without your unwavering belief in our mission.   Each learner's progress, every harvest from our school farm, every certificate earned, and every talent discovered is a reflection of your contribution. Thank you for investing in possibilities, in resilience, and in the power of education. As we look ahead, we do so with renewed sense of purpose and joy because together, we are not just building a school, we are building a legacy of transformation. With heartfelt appreciation, Rev. Evalyn ... [ more ]

Carolyn Olaka: A Treasure at the Nambale Magnet School
May 2025
- Carolyn Olaka is the social worker at the Nambale Magnet School (NMS). She has been on staff since before the school opened in 2009. Carolyn has two primary responsibilities. She oversees the student selection process, especially for the orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) attending NMS, who compose one-third of the student body. Her other priority is to provide emotional help and guidance for all the students of the school, but especially the OVCs, who come from extremely impoverished backgrounds and receive full financial support (many of them from you!) in pursuing their educations ... A Visit to the Nambale Magnet School - By Jun Goto
May 2025
- My name is Jun, and I’m John and Mihau Gill's nephew from Japan. I had the opportunity to visit Nambale Magnet School (NMS) from March 17th to 19th during my trip to Kenya. My visit to NMS broadened my perspective and helped me understand how essential education and sponsor support are for the students.  On the first day I took a brief solo tour around the campus. At first, the students seemed a bit unsure of me. Some looked suspicious, and a few even ran away when I approached—perhaps I was a rare sight for them! But I kept trying to connect ... [ more ]

She witnesses the daily impact NMS has on students' lives from providing for their education, their healthcare needs, to their nutrition and balanced diet. Students are supported through guidance and counseling, peer support, and faith. Sponsored and vulnerable children are all treated equally to ensure that their needs are met fully ... [ more ]

Innovation at NMS’s Farm – Black Soldier Flies
January 2025
 - NMS is always looking for ways to support the students. The Farm at NMS is a great source of nutrition from the eggs the chicken's lay to the milk the cow's produce to the vegetables grown. They nourish the children and given them a balance diet while also providing extra income for the school with local sales. The community is a beneficiary of the Farm through both employment opportunities and fresh produce ... [ more ]

Summer Visit to Nambale Magnet School
July 2024 - by John Gill, WIKS-USA President - I made my fourth visit to Nambale Magnet School (NMS) this past July. As always, it evoked a range of emotions and impressions. The stark rural poverty of western Kenya where NMS is located is a fact of everyday life. The stories of many of our sponsored children and their families are frankly gut-wrenching. And the cycle of poverty at the macro level is no closer to being broken in this region of Kenya than it was two decades ago when the idea of building NMS was germinating ... [ more ]

Current Economic and Political Realities in Kenya

July 2024 - by John Gill, President, WIKS-USA - During the course of my recent trip to Kenya, I tried to gain a better understanding of the current situation there. There were a number of demonstrations across the country during my two-week stay over tax policies and the government's management of its budget and the overall economy ... [ more ]
